Encouragement for Joy
Our Sunday School class this Sunday was AMAZING! For those that are unable to attend, we would love for you to follow along with us so we are going to post a summary of each lesson!
As most of you know we are in a study called "Encouragement for Joy", a study verse by verse of Philippians. Encouragement is something we all need at one time or another in life and there is no better place to find that than in GOD'S WORD!

As most of you know we are in a study called "Encouragement for Joy", a study verse by verse of Philippians. Encouragement is something we all need at one time or another in life and there is no better place to find that than in GOD'S WORD!
In class we studied Philippians 1:12-26, and we discussed how Paul was an
ENCOURAGEMENT BY EXAMPLE!
As you begin to read these verses keep in mind that Paul has been arrested for preaching the Good News, he's been sent to Rome, placed under house arrest and is awaiting trial before Caesar. Also note Paul's attitude toward his "chains" and towards others!
Paul makes it clear to the people he's writing in Philippi that all the things that have happened to him have turned out for furtherance of the Gospel (verse 12). Wait, arrested, imprisoned, awaiting trial and he isn't angry, or bitter? Right, what an encouragement!
Paul was able to further the gospel because he knew that his circumstances weren't as important as what he did with them!
Paul continued to be a mighty warrior for the cross despite his circumstances. Even preaching to the men that were guarding him and many of them came to Christ. Imagine telling someone that is guarding you about our Lord for a moment? Would you or I be that bold? Paul saw this as an opportunity for Christ not the end of the road! In the process he inspired many other Christians to become bold witnesses as well (verse 14).
Paul also deals with a somewhat personal issue (verse 18) with other preachers that are preaching the Gospel in pretense/selfish ambition. Paul's response to this- "What then"? What I love about this is that Paul didn't spend time pointing out what others were doing, he wasn't naming names-HE REJOICED BECAUSE CHRIST WAS BEING PREACHED! Amen! It made me wonder how much time we spend questioning the motives of others when we should be rejoicing at the fact that Christ is being preached?
This is just a small piece of our wonderful study on Sunday. I hope that you found it encouraging! Remember that happiness depends on happenings but JOY is in the Lord! I would love for you to join us Sunday as we continue this study and if you are unable to attend I would be glad to send you a full copy of the notes.

Peace, what is peace? a few years ago many people were looking for peace, and even today many people wish for world peace. Yet, why is this peace so allusive? What does God do about peace?
First God loves peace and wants it so bad that He was willing to die for it-
"Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ" -Rom 5:1
"For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separations having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity." - Eph 2:14-16
This is God's actions for us, however our actions remove that same peace...
Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members? You lust and you do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures." -James 4:1-3
Anything that we place before God, and desire more than Him, will steal our peace with Him. However, if we decide to follow His lead, and desire what He does, we will be given peace with Him.
what could be more important?
"The LORD bless you and keep you;
The LORD make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you;
The LORD lift up His countenance upon you,
And give you peace." -Num 6:24-26

"Thou will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee" Isaiah 26:3
Elections are coming up soon. The internet, TV ads, newspapers, magazines, talk around the office, all are witness of this. As Christians, voting is defintely something we should take seriously. It is one of our freedoms in America. We should be thankful for the honor and privilege to be able to vote.
Some think, why do it. My vote doesns't count. The nation's in a mess. It can't be fixed. Keep you mind on the Lord, pray, do what you can, read up on the candidates and then vote. God will take care of the rest.
Heavenly Father, when things get tough, let me keep my mind on you and you will give me the peace I need for each and every day. But Heavenly Father, let me do whatsoever I can in making things better.

"Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgement" - John7:24
In the Old Testament God chose King David, not according to his stature or social class, but because of his heart. Now in the New Testament, Jesus, as stated above, rebukes the religious and social classes based upon their actions shown by appearance.
We can do all the right things, the wrong way. That is; we can pray, we can go to church, even fast, and read our bibles, but if we are just doing it for the appearance and not the right motivation, its wrong.
Jesus even tells us that we are to judge these things, but not according to what is seen, but according to the reason.
'Lord, Father, thank you for your mercy and truth, thank you for your love, and the grace that is so freely given. Let our motivations be for others, and not ourselves. Let us not look at people by what is shown, but what can be done, but first let us look at ourselves. Father, my prayer is change me beneath the top layer, change my heart and make it righteous, AMEN'

OCTOBER
"TAKE IT BACK"
For the next month God has laid on my heart to follow along with the Church in the "Take it Back" series.
My question to you to start out with is, what are you needing to take back? What in your life has Satan taken from you that you need back?
I challenge you this week to pray, fast, read the daily scriptures in the book of John, and watch the videos from Evangel's website. Write your comments on this post about what you are seeing God do in your life as you take back what Satan has stolen from you.
If you missed the sermons today from the pastors and speaker, the emphasis was on Taking Back the World. We need to pray for the world and its leaders and for our missionaries and their protection as they go forth preaching the gospel.
Next Sunday don't miss out on the services as the word is brought to us about Taking Back America.
Dear Lord,
First of all I want to thank you for your many blessings that you have given in my life. I thank you for your protection that you have provided. Lord right now I pray for our world. For our missionaries across our World. Bless them as they step out in their faith and preach to the lost. Show us your strength and power for we know that it is time that we need God back in this world.
Listed below is the daily readings for this week. Also on Wednesday is a day of prayer and fasting until 5pm.
Monday: John Chapter 1
Tuesday: John Chapter 2
Wednesday: John Chapter 3
Thursday: John Chapter 4
Friday: John Chapter 5
Saturday: John Chapter 6
Sunday John Chapter 7

The importance of the tongue-
Whatever is on our heart, whatever we think, and consider, whatever is in our own desires, will eventually be made known. How? some may say by the attitude with which we carry ourselves, others will say through the actions that we do, while these can be true- Jesus told us it was by our mouth.
"A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks (NKJV, Luke 6:45)."
"A good person produces good deeds from a good heart, and an evil person produces evil deeds from an evil heart. Whatever is in your heart determines what you say (NLT)."
"The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good; and the evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil; for his mouth speaks from that which fills his heart (NASB)."

Change
A statement was made in tonight's Sunday sermon that made me think, "Our success depends on how we respond to change."
Boy did that hit me. I can truthfully say that I do not do well with change. But after he said that it has made me take a deeper look into my life.
There have been so many times in the past and even recently that change was brought to me and I did not respond to it well.
I think back at a situation wondering could it have turned out for my good? what if I just had patience and excepted the change? Could I have been effective in my life with victory if I embraced change?
There is going to be change everyday in my/our life. So embrace it, use it, don't let it take a hold of you and bring you down.
I know that after tonight I am going to try hard at not looking at change as something bad but look at it as a new opportunity that God has given me to better myself as a person and as a Christian. Just think if it was not for me asking Jesus into my heart and him CHANGING my life. Where would I be today?
Lord, I just want to thank you for changing my heart. For if it had not been for you not changing your mind and dying on the cross for me, I would not be where I am today. Thank You for helping me see that even if the change may hurt that it's good. Help me to be patient and embrace the changes that lay ahead of me in life. To know that no matter what happens, You never will change. When I need you, you are there, being the same you have always been. amen

What it's not
1Thessalonians 5:18
We have all at one time gone around complaining at what our life has set before us. Complaining about our job, no money, how our bodies might hurt and that we don't feel good. Wondering how much more can we take.
But let me ask you this, have you ever stopped and thanked God for what it's not?
This week I was challenged to thank God for what it was not. I never realized before now that what I was complaining about could have been more serious.
What it's not- is that we could be without a job, living on the streets with no home and food or lying in a hospital bed alone and dying.
In 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (The Message) says "Be cheerful no matter what; pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live."
God tells us to thank Him for everything no matter what state we may be in.
I challenge you and myself to let us take a step back and thank God for what it's not. Then you will see that in the mist of thanking and praising God for whats it's not is when He will come through and show up right were we need Him to be.
Dear God ,
I pray at this very moment that you will begin to remind us of what it's not. That no matter what life's challenges are that we will praise you. You have given so much to us already that there is no need to complain. Lord there are so many people out there that have only a little yet they know its so much and here we are questioning you. Lord forgive us for doubting you and for not seeing what you have placed in front of us. Thank you Lord for being so merciful to us when we can be so selfish. Give us a daily reminder of what it's not and of who you are..
Amen

Total Trust
Romans 15:13
I pray that the God who gives hope will fill you with much joy and peace while you trust in Him. Then your hope will overflow by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Has there ever been a time in your life where after all was said and done there was no other hope and the only thing you had left was putting your total trust in God? Maybe you are going through that now.
I have come to a point in my life where I have to put my total trust in God. To have the words told to me "there is nothing else I know we can do" was the hardest thing I have ever heard. But it was in through those words I have realized God has been waiting on me to let Him do His work.
Will it be hard to let go and let God? Yes. Will it be easy? No. But it is in this time I need to call on Him even more in prayer and fasting, seeking His face, and placing everything on the alter and having total trust in Him.
The Bible tells us in 1Corinthians 10:13 "The only temptation that has come to you is that which everyone has. But you can trust God, who will not permit you to be tempted more than you can stand. But when you are tempted, He will also give you a way to escape so that you will be able to stand it."
God will give me the strength in facing this season in my life as He will give you in the season that you are going through. We must always remember that we must give Him all the glory and honor for what He already has done and what He will do.
Give God your total trust today and let Him work His miracles when no one else says it can be done.
Dear Lord, I'm giving you my total trust, so work in my life the way you know is best. Amen
Amen

The Lost Word
After coming home from church tonight, my mother and I were talking about the service. She quoted a scripture and then I asked were is that found in the bible. She then asked for her bible and that's when we realized that the WORD was LOST aka the Bible.
I began to think, as I sat down to do this weeks devotion, have we lost the word as Christians?
The bible teaches us about faith, hope, and love. It tells us about standing on the promise of God. It even tells us about standing up for what we believe in.
But how many of us have shied away from the truth, Gods word. Are we just trusting on our self to get through rough times? Are we just living day to day instead if standing on His promise.
Have you lost the word? When's the last time you went looking for it? Do you just look for it when you need it and then throw it back out again?
God gave us His word to stand on, and not to let it gather dust or to be lost.
I challenge you to find your word today, read what God has in store for you.
The bible tells us "to hide its word in our hearts. Psalm 119:11"
Lord help use today not to lose Your word. Help us to always keep it close to us. Help us to relay on your word and not on our self.

Realizing the Calling
Exodus 3:11-14
There are many of us out there that have been called to do the will of the Lord. And there have been many of us that have said either no, yes, or even "are you sure God you want me?"
We have tried to talk our self out of the calling that has been placed in front of us by maybe saying " I'm not capable of teaching", "I'm afraid to pray for people", or "I can't lead someone".
We have tried all ways to get around what we have been called to do, but we can't. God has chosen us to a ministry and we must answer the call.
I was asked if I could be a prayer partner. I said to myself, you know you have a hard time praying in front of people, you can't even pray with your own parents for dinner, how are you going to be a prayer partner. Then the answer was given to me while teaching in my 5th grade Sunday school. I begin to pray out loud and the lord blessed me with the words that needed to be said.
See when you stop looking at yourself , stop looking at your past mistakes and failures. When you stop letting fear holding you down and just let go and let God lead you, everything will fall right where God wants you to be.
If God can call a man with a speech problem to face Pharaoh to lead the people out of Egypt, If God can use a small boy with just five rocks to kill a giant, and if God can use a small simple girl to have our Savior and King. Then God can use us.
Dear Lord,
If you can use anything Lord, you can use me. Take my hands Lord and my feet, touch my heart Lord speak through me. If you can use anything Lord, you can use me.
Amen

In Your Name
Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, so that your joy will be the fullest possible joy.John 16:24
For in your name there is healing.
In your name there is power.
In your name there is a peace of mind.
In your name there is love and kindness.
In your name is everlasting.
In your name is eternal life in you.
This is really all we need to have to face tomorrow. That in his wonderful name we have everything.
All we need is the name Jesus.....
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, there's just something about that name. Master, Savior, Jesus. Let all heaven and earth proclaim.
Kings and Kingdoms will all pass away.
Oh but there just something about that name.
Amen

God's Will
Have you run ahead of what God has for you? Have you tried to do things on your on and failed?
We all have. We have gotten impatient, gotten tried of waiting and now we are looking back and probably regretting it.
Its hard, believe me, I know. Everyday I fight the same battle of trying to let go and let God. Trying to be still, silent and wait on His timing. Even now, you may be battling the same waiting game..
Waiting on God to bring us that right job. Waiting on God to bring us that right mate. Waiting on God to bring us the healing we need. Or whatever it may be in your own personal life. Yes, it can be a long, hard, and sometimes lonely road. There may even be challenges along the way that we must face. But how wonderful it is to know that in the end, when we put everything in God, and we are patient and let it be in His timing, how it all works out and we can give Him the total praise that he deserves.
"I know the plans I have for you," declare the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11
Thank you Lord for knowing what is best for us. That even though we may run ahead of You and try to do things on our own, that You are still there to help us and guide us back to the right path and the right plans You have for us. For we know that in You and in your timing all things that You desire for us will come to us who wait in you.

Weekly Devotion
" Never Alone"
As I sit here trying to write what this weeks devotion is to be , I am struggling. I ask myself why? Have I run out of faith? Do I not trust God in my time of need? Are you even there Lord? I have so much going on in my life and around me that I can not even see you. Do you not know what I'm feeling Lord? Where are you? I sit in tears feeling alone and scared wondering what the next step is going to bring me. Is it joy, peace, the answer?
But in the next breath the song from Barlow Girl comes to my mind, "Never Alone". In this song she is asking God where are you, I can't see you, I can't feel you, you told me to call you when I needed you in the most desperate time. But in the end of the chorus it says, "I'll hold tight to what I know cause you are here and I'm never alone".
Though we may feel like He is not here, and we can't feel Him, in Joshua 1:5 God said "Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you." Also in Matthew 28:20 Jesus said, " And surely I am with you always, to the very end of age."
God has not forgotten about us. God has not given up on us. God hears the crying of our heart. We just need to rest in His arms, keep our faith, and let Him do the rest.
Dear Lord,
In this time of feeling alone we need you. Let us open our hearts to you. Let us fall in you arms and rest. Help us to let you be the guide in out life. Trusting you with every step that comes our way. Even if we know not what the end results may be help us to put our trust back in you, knowing that you will always be there.

The Eyes of the Lord
Proverbs Chapter 15
When evil seems to triumph over good in the world around us, or even in our own families, our faith in God's presence and justice can waver.
Here in Proverbs 15:3 Solomon reminds us of a faith-enhancing truth: God is fully aware, every moment, of what is going on in the world he created as well as in the heart of every person (Proverbs 15:11).
No deed or motive, whether good or evil, escapes his notice. For those whose sin is covered by the atoning blood of Jesus Christ this is good news indeed.
Not only is God diligently keeping loving watch over us, but he is keeping tabs on those who have rejected him. While he wants every person to bow in repentance and become his own (2 Peter 3:9), we have his word that those who have no regard for his ways will be dealt with justly and those who love him will be blessed (2 Th. 2:10-17; Rev 21:6-8).
Dear Lord,
As we go out this week may we be reminded that you are watching our every thought and action. Helps us oh Lord to be careful of the good and evil that is around us. Let us be mindful of what comes in and and what goes out. Thank you Lord for your might and protection over our lives.
Amen
